PROPOSED PROJECT

Parts Drawing Search

Help maintenance teams find a part when they have a photo or drawing but no reliable part number. Combine visual matching with extracted dimensions and catalog descriptions to return candidate parts, supplier references, and specification differences for an engineer to verify.

PARTS SEARCH / DRAWING MATCH

Looks right. Now check the details.

Drawing requirement
50 × 40 mm bracket face

Authored drawing and catalog candidates. Dimensions are supplied labels, not measurements inferred from a photo. A geometry match does not establish interchangeability.

The project in practice.

A fictional bracket drawing specifies a 50 × 40 mm face, 30 mm hole centers, and 8 mm holes. Candidate A matches those dimensions but has no material record; B has 32 mm hole centers; C matches the dimensions but is marked as an obsolete revision. Only A proceeds to a material and suitability check. No dimensions are measured from a photograph.

WHAT IS USUALLY DONE

A technician looks through folders for a bracket that resembles the worn part. Similar shapes can hide a different hole spacing, material, or drawing revision, and a visual match can be mistaken for proof that the part is interchangeable.

WHAT SOVRUN CAN DO FOR YOU

Sovrun would build a search that combines the supplied photo or drawing with readable dimensions and catalog descriptions. Candidate parts would show matched fields, specification differences, and missing evidence beside their source records. Engineers confirm suitability; an uncertain visual match never becomes an automatic replacement order.

Three close matches.
Three different review outcomes.

Keep the specification differences beside each candidate. The first part matches the displayed geometry but still needs a material record and an engineering suitability check.

A shortlist with reasons.
An engineer-owned decision.

The proposed search makes candidates easier to inspect. Supplier availability and an exact-looking outline cannot replace the technical checks for the intended installation.

How we’d make it happen.

  1. Read what the source actually provides

Extract labeled dimensions and identifiers. Keep inferred shape observations separate from recorded specifications.

  2. Compare candidates field by field

Retrieve possible parts and expose differences in hole spacing, outside size, material, and revision. Do not hide missing data behind a similarity score.

  3. Confirm the technical match

Engineers review the source drawing and use conditions. Export a checked shortlist with unresolved questions before any order is placed.

Where AI helps

Vision models propose shape matches and document models extract candidate dimensions from labeled drawings. Search combines those fields with catalog text. Calculations compare explicit dimensions, not measurements guessed from an uncalibrated photo. Material and hidden features remain unknown unless supported by records.

What people approve

Maintenance engineers verify dimensions, drawing revisions, material, load requirements, and actual installation suitability. Buyers confirm supplier availability only after technical approval. Candidate ranking is a search aid, not an engineering interchangeability decision.

What we’d need to start

  • Permitted part photos or labeled drawings with known scale where applicable
  • Current part catalog, supplier references, materials, and drawing revisions
  • Required dimensions, use conditions, and engineering review criteria

How we’d test it

Test near-identical shapes with different hole centers, unreadable dimension labels, obsolete revisions, and missing material records. Check candidate recall and false matches against engineer-reviewed examples. Verify that exact-looking candidates still need suitability approval.

Prepared for Manufacturing & industry. We would agree on the work after reviewing your brief, materials, and requirements.

DISCUSS THIS PROJECT

This is a proposed project, not completed client work. The visuals and numbers show example outputs, not measured results.
